Novel Discussions

Category description:

The discussions in this category all relate to Ray Bradbury's  Fahrenheit 451.  Most of the prompts are taken from the Workbook for the novel, so if you keep up with your homework, the forums will be easy to post.   The discussion topics will be of two kinds: analysis and  personal reflection on some aspect of the work.  How you address either is up to you.  You may feel free to expand the discussions by addressing questions not asked by the instructor. Be careful, however, not to stray from the discussion topic.

All posts must be 200-350 words long.  Also you must reply to at least 2 of your fellow scholar's discussions in order to receive full credit for the class. The replies must also have some substance and be 50-100 words long.

Important consideration: These forums do not only are provide additional opportunity to reflect on and discuss the novel with your teacher and your classmates.  They also offer the opportunity to practice making a claim then supporting the claim with evidence, both personal and textual, a skill which you will need to accomplish if you hope to pass this class with a satisfactory grade.

Special Note: The first discussion is preliminary.  Think of it as pre-reading.  The purpose of this discussion is to encourage you to think about the theme some of the themes you will encounter in the novel. You do not need to discuss the novel in these two discussions. Just share your ideas about the theme.
